Hi Everybody!
Just had to share my birthday present to myself with you guys. It arrived today from Belgium. 14x5 Designer X-ray snare.

I have to say the gentleman who I bought this from was simply a delight to deal with and a proper stand up guy. Full transaction start to finish was a pleasure.

It's literally brand new and after a polish and clean here it is....

Sounds really nice but will be putting it through it's paces properly next week.

Well damn bro....happy birthday to you!!! :D Couldn't ask for a nicer example than that, it's absolutely pristine. Really looking forward to your thoughts after you've played around with it for a while. Was really impressed by the samples I've heard of the 6 x 14. Seemed a bit warmer and fuller than I had expected and sounded like it had some serious presence...kind of like a punch to the gut. I've been after one in the 8" depth for a while, but they sure don't seem to show up too often.

Hope you had a rockin' birthday by the way!

Insane looking, Ron! I've never felt the urge, and the thought of keeping it clean and scratch free intimidates me, but I admit it has a certain presence as everything seems to float on nothing. I grew up in the "anti-plastic" generation, so what can you expect from me?

Nice looking drum, Ron.

I'd be curious to try setting one up to my own liking, and seeing how it works.

I'm with Gunnar though, in that I'd probably want to try an 8".

Gunnar,

If you ever get an 8", I'll have to make it back to your neighborhood.
:)

Now that's some incentive!

Recently picked up that Makassar 580 on ebay, not sure if you saw it? Maybe I could coax you over with that for the time being.

I'm sorry Ron. I looked at this post a few times and just didn't know how to reply.
Until I turned the brightness up on my monitor, I thought you just bought some lugs, hoops and a badge.

I dunno...acrylic see through drums are just wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. Wrong when Bonham was using them, wrong when Thomas Lang was using them and still wrong. Will never be right.
If that drum turned up at my house somehow I would do everything possible to not let my friends know.

Give me a little time to think it over and I'll give you my thoughts on the drum

Oh shit almost forgot. Happy Birthday brother!

Kel, you're cracking me up today. What's this about a birthday?

Of all acrylic kits I've seen, I like Fibes the most...

Still - that's as far as looks goes. As far as sound goes, it just doesn't feel right...

Of all snares I've seen, the Designer X takes first place!!!

He said he got it for a birthday present for himself.
I'd ask for the receipt
