I don't engage in envy for things other people have - at least not very often. But I want to encourage some envy because I would be envious if I saw this. At the age of 65, carrying this junk up and down the stairs has become an obstacle that I have to plan around so that I'm not suffering from aches and muscle fatigue when I finally sit down to play.

Our building came with an elevator that worked for 7 or 8 years, and then refused to go up one day. Finally got it working again, and yesterday it served its first run for the most fantastic of its purposes!

Two rolling pallets; all my drums and cymbals on one, mic stands, music stands, carpet, and PA on the other, and two rolling stand cases... going down! :D :D :D

This is one I can appreciate!

When I had the chance to visit Greg, it was during the non-functioning period. Greg did a lot of the lugging with me, but hauling my kit up and down those stairs just once was enough for me.

Glad to see this back in service.

Good for you Greg! I think most drummers would appreciate that...

Congratulations, Gregory...

I was once "lucky" enough to be forced to carry my drums from my apartment to a gig...
Down the stairs...

...I live on the 13th floor...

Horror...

Good Lord, Man! For me that would mean calling all my friends, and particularly my friends' sons, and I could carry the music stand.

Thanks for enjoying, guys. One thing about this elevator is that a small dumpster fits, and from there can traverse the hallways from one end of the building to the other. Where the dumpster won't go, a wheel barrow will, so any building or remodeling project involving materials hauling can be done on wheels. To complete the picture, the garage has a loading dock the height of a step van (and it so happens the height of my station wagon bed), and the building also has a loading dock for semis, so even the enormous Wolf commercial range can roll aboard.

Since the elevator broke, a lot of things have been carried up and down the stairs, and each time I thought, "Damn!" In Cliff's case, I was glad to see him and happy to help with his drums, but one pleasure was missing: there are - perhaps - bragging rights in having a lift in your home; but a non-working elevator is nothing to crow about.

Carrying heavy shit and being over 50 yo, that's why I often gig with a very small or nesting kit!! ;)
