Beautiful! My favorite snare. Best strainer available to the breed, and with only ten lugs.

Congrats Ron, way to make all your other snares jealous. Definitely one of the best ever made. Mine is currently on the shelf because I got a 6" deep Sig brass a while back which is also a monster, but a different monster. If I could only have two it would be those two(right now anyways) Enjoy it |

A fantastic snare drum for sure!!! Congratulations Ron!!! Gregory, I've found that the snare cord works better than the snare straps. It distributes the tension better, I think... |

I agree, Goki. The plastic straps have to be perfectly aligned in order to function properly. I have been reading about grosgrain ribbon; some drummers swear by it above cord (for the reason that it will not break), and plastic strap (for the reason you say), and for one more important (if true) advantage: On extended snares like Ron has, the following will not apply, but the ribbon apparently allows snare wires to sit more fully on the head than either cord or plastic, and thereby reduces the annoyance of problem buzzing snares. I plan to try it on my Designer snares, where my relationship has been sullied by the throw-offs. |

Thank you so much to you all for your nice comments. I LOVE this drum already Having now played it for one night I have already taken the snare straps off and replaced them with string! Could not agree more on the uneven tension. Almost was pulling the strainer at an angle etc. Also the material it is made of makes it stick to itself where it is folded over giving even more tension issues. Won't be using these again that's for sure. Will give it a try possibly tonight with the new strings attached. Will let you all know my findings. Did I tell you my tom arms came for my designer toms? Will be removing the track mount after Xmas and giving that a shot. Can't wait. Thanks again guys

Hey Ron, Not surprised that your experience confirms Goki's comments in regards to cords vs. straps. Th cords seem to be inherently self-centering. Is there something particular you are trying to accomplish with removal of the tom mount from the kick drum, or are you just curious about the comparision? |
