Cool! The family resemblance between yours and mine is stunning, after 60 years. I realize that's done on purpose, but ol' Fred has a good idea, not fixing what ain't broke. I mount my 12 on a stand, too, because I do not like the looks of all that modern metal girding and hiding the shell. Is that bit in the top center of the bass shell a cymbal mount? 20" kick?

Yeah, they are hard to improve on. On these pieces I got rid of the bent up out of round single flange hoops and put on some aftermarket triple flange. They sound much different than the other ones with the original diecasts. The kit in the picture is 13, 16, 22. I have 20, 13, 14 which I got when I was back in high school from my buddy's dad who bought them new. Been looking for add ons for 20 years. If I can find a 12 that would be great, but I am sure it would have to be part of a kit at this point.
I'm not a huge fan of the tom on the snare stand, but it works for now, might upgrade the rail mount to a gibraltar and use that instead.

That is a cymbal mount in the middle of the kick, does nothing but shed screws, will be removed next time I change heads.

I love them because of what they can do,they are vintage, they sound like old drums are supposed to.

Ow, cut to the core! I was having such a fine time sharing ownership... :cry:

I love the look of tom on a stand, but not so much the hassles of hauling, and of carefully placing it, without whacking green paint. Is Starlight the name of the wrap?

Yours have the same fundamental tone and style......

Starlight Sparkle is the name of the wrap. It was around for two or three years in the late fifties/early sixties. rare stuff, looks awesome under lights, it changes colors from silver to gray to green to purple.

Think about how goood yours sound, that will make you feel better. Just done ever buy an old round badge snare, you will be incredibly disappointed. They sound pretty bad compared to what you are used to.

Yeeahhh, these will do!

Naturally, with the EQ4 installed, the bass is more controlled and still with great tone, but Holy Moly, does it ever have power!

These drums are sweethearts. Tomorrow evening they'll have a go, and we will see how they handle the room, because I could torch the place with these. :o :lol:

I wish I had bought one of those when I had the chance, I am so f-in jealous of you. I liked the birdland kit but the gold hardware was a deal killer.

Nice kits, both.

I think I would like to spend some time with either one (or both) to see how they work.

Wish we had more time at Greg's a month or so ago to get to know the Gretsch kit.
