Just a re-mix of some Saturday morning noodling last year. I had posted it back then, and then realized that I disliked the mix and pulled it down. It was re-mixed a bit back then, but never went back up. Maybe it shouldn't have. Dunno  .wav file .mp3 file |

Very nice Cliff, lovely textures and flow. The drums and cymbals sound great, bass drum tone is just so musical! Are those Designers or the Sigs? What is your recording setup, mics etc etc, this is something i've got to get into? |

Drums: • Designers – 8/12/14/16/18 kick, 14x8 snare • Cymbals – Ibraham Diril AD series Mics: • Snare – Audix d1 • Rack toms – Audix d2’s • Floor toms – Audix d4’s • Kick – Audix d6 internal (towards batter) / AKG d112 external on resonant head • Overheads – Shure 849’s Signal path: • Mackie 1604vlz (for pre-amp) to direct outs • MOTU 1224 d/a converter DAW software: • Sonar X1 (Producer version) Except for minimal EQ on the Mackie, no input signal processing; all signal processing applied in Sonar. |

great stuff, so are you close micing every tom? I'm in two minds depending on budget, whether to experiment with fewer mics, snare bass and overheads or go the close micing route. I'm assuming that Sonar is an equivalent to Logic on a Mac? Did you go for Audix through recommendation, trial and error/experimentation etc? Lastly how have you mounted the internal BD mic? Nick |

Hey, Nick, This link will give some detail of the Audix d6 and the AKG d112 internal mount options in the 18". The Audix d6 option in the 18"  The AKG d112 option in the 18"  This is a photo of the first prototype of mount in the 20" Designer.  Over the years, I have tried a number of different mics, but have used the Audix / AKG / Shure set-up for the last 10+ years. I can not help you with a Sonar 'equivalent' on a Mac. Sonar is what was initially Cakewalk, and was re-named when they got to version 11 or 12. I think it is pretty comparable to Pro Tools, but can't say for sure. I started with Cakewalk and just continued the upgrade path to what I have now. I do not think that you need to have everything close mic'ed to get a good recording, but doing so provides more tools to use in specific placement of things on the soundstage. I try to get as much as I can from the overheads, and use the close mics for balancing and placement. |

Yes sounds like it's an equivalent to Logic Pro or Pro Tools. That is a great design there Cliff, I assume to cable feeds out of the air hole /port...Thanks for the info on mics, I agree close micing gives greater control and depending on the style, blending individual drums into the overheads is my preference! |

Yes, mic cords exit through the vent holes, which requires passing the cord through, and then installing a new DIN connector. |
