I recently listened to some old recordings of my kit and liked it better than now. Cliff said my other recordings sounded better when my kit had full resonance. So I got out the old drum dial and looked at some of the archives to find my settings. I used my clear G2's for this recording, when they wear out I'm going back to the coated version. Hope this is better. I need to muffle the bottom of the 16" floor tom, because there's a slight unpleasing overtone.

Those are sounding great, Greg. They have a liveliness that merges musically, a sound that pleases my ear. My take is that the sound, even if it gets lost in the mix with guitars where you're sitting, will project and make a more musical mix than the more controlled sound you were working with. Even if it gets obliterated by the guitars, so what?

Coated heads would be an excellent choice, I think. But what you have now sounds like a drum kit!

I don't hear the problem you mention with the 16. It is very full and resonant, but I don't hear it being activated except when you play the 16, and that is when I'd want it to ring.

Hey Greg,

Which clip is the one intended for comparison?

Cliff the one that says Sonor Resonance.

Thanks Gregory for your kind words. It turns out the clear G2's are great heads, it was just operator error. I feel the open resonant sound will easily sit in a dense mix. I'm glad I dusted off the DD, it's been about 5 years since I used it last.
