This is my SQ 2 with Evans heads, better tuned. I played melodic fills around the Snare and Toms. There's no fast chops in this clip, just medium tempo flls so you can hear the tuning.
Bass Drum: EQ 4 clear/ EQ 1 resonant coated.
Snare: EC Reverse Dot/ 300 snare Side.
Tos: G1 clears both sides.

Sound nice, Greg, although your bottom tom has dropped below what I would think its optimal tuning range should be... in my headphones, anyway... since it lacks tonal continuity with the others.

What is your perception of the difference between the Remos and Evans on your kit?

Thanks Gregory. IMO, the Evans heads are a llittle warmer than the Remo's, the difference is very minimul. I'll tweak the second floor tom. thanks for your compliment.

You're welcome, Greg. :)

I'm surprised to hear that they seem warmer, because of the reputation for sounding less warm. Is it possible that they are just more tunable than the worn Remos and thus sound... well, warmer? I can't describe the difference in the recordings, even though there is a difference; too many other subtle variables.

Greg,

Outstanding!

Tuning, recording, and playing!

Great kick sound, too.

Love the sense of humor in the melodic tom lines, too.

Not sure I agree that the 16" floor is too low; it just seems to want to be played in dead center.

Nice work on all fronts.
;)

Hadn't thought of that.

Speaking of hitting the second floor off center, it is decidedly the hardest one to hit on center, since more twist or reach-back is required. And nothing more disappointing than an off-center strike; just when you want BOOOOM you get BLoim.

Greg,
You are doing something different from your older recordings and it's working. Snare aside (it's just me)...the recording sounds terrific. Maybe a little more kick volume. That's also just the "rock" in me.
Great work as usual.
