I recorded 3 different snare dums today, I wanted you all to hear the differences.
I used a Rmo coated Ambassador X (new favorite) on top of all the drums.
Remo Diplomat snare's side.
Drum Dial settings. 75 resonant snare side and 88 top batter on all the snares.
No muffling.
1. Ludwig 5x14 Black Beauty tube lug.http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9371835

3. Sonor SQ 2 Acrylic 14x6. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9371846

Thanks for listening.

Did you like one over the other?

Ludwig is metal and sounds it.
Artist maple is maple and sounds it.
Acrylic is plastic, and I would continue not to guess it.

Ludwig has that omnipresent metallic ring.
Maple has wide variation in sound, from metal ring to dead center dry punch.
Acrylic is very dry. In addition, in spite of the tunings being the same, the Acrylic seems lower in pitch or darker... or something. I've listened to them all three or more times and still haven't quite put my finger on it.

Overall impression: The kit seems more alive in the recordings of the Ludwig and the Artist. Arcylic sucks the sound from the kit, because of its dryness.

Not a bad drum among them. I prefer the wood.

ps. The red-brown font color is such a trademark of Cliff that I automatically think he's the one writing. Admittedly he lays no claim to it, but I'm getting confused. Can you pick another? 8-)

Thanks Greg. I'm leaning more towards the Artist Maple myself.

I'll change my font color. I'm trying to find a color similar to my Rosewood kit.

Ah! Um... well, the color of your acrylic snare is still free... :P ;) :P

Cool new retro bass head! Very traditional.

They all sound nice, the Plastic one is cool ;) . We had an Acrylic SQ2 kit in store, I didn't want to like a non-timber kit, but I did :| .

Got a Spaun Acrylic kit instore now, not bad either, snares are great.
