I wasn't going to post this because I got lost at the end when I began thinking how to get out of it. But Cliff mounted it on his website for me, and since what I wanted was to get the character of the Gretsch kit in open bop tuning on file...

Recorded with H4n, mounted at ear height and a foot or so to the right of my right ear.

Cymbals are all Bosphorus Masters Vintage Turks, unlathed, 21" thin flat, 22" thin and 22" medium weight rides, 14" hats.

Heads are all Amb weights, with a small bit of material resting loosely against the bass batter head.

Thanks, Tim. The Designers are biding their time, I think. Stripped of cymbals, they still look dignified and ready on a moment's notice.

Sometimes 1 is where you make it, besides half the time 90% of the people listening wont even notice! Either way you are covered :lol:

That's no doubt true, although it still has to make some kind of sense. Solos are weird for me; I have always been a player to a song or a structure, but generally turn down doing solos. Even so, I'm working on that, since... well, since where else would I be playing right now? Between that and making recording seem natural, I've got my hands full.

My first love is playing live.

Excellent recording Gregory!!!

I like what I hear very much - the sound control and play feel are fantastic.

Tell me - is there a chance to play this same piece on the Designer bop kit, so we could hear a comparison?!?

Thanks, guys. Goki, I appreciate that comment a lot, since control and feel are what I have been concentrating on. Trying to bring the maximum sonic qualities out of the kit with restraint and dynamics.

Given time, I'm going to run the Teardrops and the Designers through the same treatment, though I warn you that the sound will not be even close; I can't get the Designers kick to sound good with two medium tuned Amb weight heads, so I'm back to the muffled EQ4 batter.

Love how clean and simple it is Greg.
I don't mean simple as in playing I mean really easy to listen to. A line to follow that sounds really nice and understandable. I can hear the drums, the cymbals and the thoughts. And all very clearly. Very cool.

Sounds "Alive". The processed internet recordings have really taken their toll on me.

I agree Kelly, many of today's recordings are overly compressed. They lack dynamics, and are way TOO LOUD! Everytime I watch something on Youtube, I have to turn the volume down. Or maybe I'm getting old. :lol:
