I guess there are schools of thought on the subject; I like Trio because it denotes a more serious- by which I mean more ambitious - musical endeavor. River City could be anything.

Names are impossible. Who in their right mind would want to play in a band named The Beatles?

Trio better defines who they are though. Think I'll steal River City for a rock band .

When the name is tagged with 'trio,' the impression is that if you hire these guys for your party you're less likely to find the drummer urging "just a little" cocaine on your teenage daughter, but then you remember drugs don't create babies.

I've listened to this enough to have settled into it. While that "angular" type of music challenges me, the thing moves along nicely. The mix is good, and the inter-musician dialogue is definitely happening.

The drums sound great and well played. Some really nice and sensitive drum bits in there that I've been studying trying to figure out how they were done. Are you at one point tapping one stick with another into the snare head? Don't know what that technique is called.

Bass is solid but a little too solid. In my experience, it is very difficult to train a bass player to loosen up, and I've played with a host of 'em. But as we talked about, I'm sure you know when a guy is growing.

So, many kudos and looking forward to hearing more tracks as things progress!

I don't know what that techique is called either, but I don't recall doing that anywhere in this tune. Can you give me an approximate time stamp of an example?


Yup. He is a recent convert to upright, and there is still work to do there.


Thanks. We're trying to move it forward. We had some technical problems on Wednesday that ultimately prevented us from getting anything 'in the can', but worked out a new tune that we sould be able to re-track with minimal effort, next time.

Nice Cliff. I still don't understand why the drums are mixed mostly to the right. I think you told me once, but I forgot.
Are using only 4 mics for this recording? I'm hearing a boost at the highs for Overheads, it sounds nice.
