The day when they needed the drums, they told me that 6 out of 7 bands will play on that set. Next thing I know - they were searching for a replacement...

And I always stick to my way of thinking: IF there's a Festival with ugly drums, I can bring my own set. BUT that set goes off the stage as soon as I get off...

I am firmly with you on this one, Goki\.

* Rule I: I don't play the 'house kit'
* Rule II: I don't provide the 'house kit'.

Like everyone here, I do this in a professional manner, but I do it for my enjoyment, and not to make (or even supplement) a living. Usually Teri comes along as roadie/drumtech, and whatever I earn generally goes to her gardening fund, since she gets all work and none of the fun of playing at the gig.

For me, part of the enjoyment is playing an instrument(s) that I am comfortable with and enjoy playing. If I am offered a gig where there using the 'house kit' is mandatory, or where there is not adequate time and space to set up and tear down my kit, I will always pass.
