His playing on Jeff Beck's "There and Back" album was a huge influence to me in High School. We wore than record out!
Greg, I know you're not a big fusion guy, but Simon was one of the first guys along with Cobham who really played a big kit ambidextrously, left-side riding, etc. He is very tasty, and has played on a lot of great stuff in the pop, rock, fusion genres.
The other cool thing about Simon is that he became his own producer/engineer very early. He wanted to have more control about how his drums sounded in the studio so he built his own studio in L.A. and became a great engineer who started recording and producing other people's albums.
