Thanks for listening, Goki.

Been trying to end rehearsal sessions with a little free time to 'roll tape' and jam a bit. It is just plain fun, and it helps us listen more to each other, rather than working on something structured. ;)

Also will give us a 'book of ideas' to write our own stuff from, eventually.

Sounds great, Cliff! To reiterate our conversation:

The recorded sound is becoming more "of a piece," and the bass player is clearly giving more thought and consideration to the way his instrument and lines meld with the group.

Your drumming sounds great, and I envy your ability to play quick and articulate figures so quietly. The snare sounds great.

Two questions: did the tall case clock chime in at the end? And might you be considering tuning your bass drum "up" to a more melodic "jazz tuning?"

Thanks, Greg. I have not had much experience with recording and mixing in the entire band environment, and I am finding my way. It helps to know that an objective ear can hear some progress.

Teri and I both listened, and can not hear the clock in the track. There is one place near the end where I was playing two cymbal bells in synch with two consecutive notes on the piano; might that be what you are hearing?

The same night that we tracked this jam, we also got two other demo tunes 'in the can'.

If you have the time, check our website, on the 'listen' page.

The two new tunes are:

• So What - Miles Davis
• Poinciana - Buddy Bernier and Nat Simon

I have thought about tuning the kick up a bit, into a bit more 'traditional' range, but I am not ready to go there yet. I am pretty comfortable within this range, and generally tend to bring 'my sound' to what I am doing, but I have to admit that I do think about it, and may experiment with it at some point.

Hey - The rhythm on Poinciana is great Cliff... I like it very much...


Wonderful - simply wonderful.

To tell You the truth, I don't think You should switch to a higher tuning on the bass drum... The idea to bring your own sound signature is a VERY bold a smart one, I think...

Keep it up... I'm with my headphones on, listening and enjoying the tracks - while arranging some docs for work... :)

We struggled with this tune initially, until we tweakd the rhythm to sometihng that worked for us, and I am happy with the way this finally came out.

Thanks for the support on staying with a 'signature sound'.

Not suggesting that you switch, but rather interested if you're interested in trying it. I was not bothered by the sound, which herein has the thump of a bass drum, but curious how you feel about the thump and if it pushes you at all toward another tuning.

Personally, I love deep bass, and can easily imagine imposing my deep tuned 22 on a jazz framework. But in listening to the "hit record," I was curious to how you feel about it and how the higher tuning might affect the sound - and even your playing, God forbid! :P ;)

No time to listen to the new postings, but look forward.
