Post subject:  Get to set up the big rig Saturday night! :)
It's been a long time since I got to do a louder gig with enough room for a full rock kit. I'm gonna go full hog if there's room... 22" BD and 4 toms (10, 12, 14, 15). Should be fun! I'm so used to playing on a 3 or 4 pc jazz kit, I'll probably be looking around at the toms thinking... which ones should I hit now? ;)

This ought to be a real test of 'mind over muscle memory'.

Have a good time and remember to lift your arm(s) before you go to the rack tom(s). :? :lol:

Things are well enough here. Break a leg at the gig. We're playing tonight. I won't have to remember which drums to hit. I'll just have to remember which song we're playing. I'm short on sleep and short on practice. Phooey.

Turned out to not only be a test of muscle memory but of muscle movement in the cold! ;) We were set up outside on a big patio and it was 42 degrees and windy! The weirdest thing was how cold the heads got and after awhile the drums felt kind like hitting cardboard. Still tons of fun and most people braved the weather and dug the music.

If it had been any warmer, you would have been competing with the a/c units all night.

Looks like we have similar approaches to the last floor tom, (yours 15; mine 16), in that I also use a different head there. G1 all else; GPlus on the 16, batter and reso.

It just fattens it up a bit.

Greg... how did the "mental" memory go?

Yes, Cliff I prefer G2s all around for louder stuff. Very fat sounding and last a bit longer. I think the pinstripe on the 15" might have come on that tom? That drum is a Pearl maple "orphan" I bought used for cheap. It sounds great and the finish matches. The rest of the kit is Yamaha Beech Custom Absolute. Extremely underrated drums in the Yamaha line IMHO. The snare is a Yamaha beech also (Sonny Emory signature).

They sound similar to the Phonic Pluses I had, only with thinner shells and isolation mounts. Just awesome rock sound.

Whew! Good on ya for surviving the cold!

Our event went really well, after a few initial warts. The guitar had been in a cold car (went down to 35ยบ that night) and would not hold a tune for more than 20 seconds. I wasn't sure what was going on, but after three songs, it stabilized. Teardrops were doing their usual incredible job, and somehow my tiredness was hardly an issue, although after playing for two hours without a break I was glad to call it quits. Enthusiastic audience always means a good night. :)

Ain't that the truth! The adrenaline kicks in during the music... it just fades after when you look at how much shit you have to pack up after it's over! ;)

Club gig. I haven't played a concert in a couple of years. Everything is now geared for dance and energy.
