Greg. I always thought Bonzo's tuning was very similar to Jazz and Motown.

Dunno. I could never stand all the noise that went with it to try to understand what was going on, but the difference in effect is profound.

My impression of Bonham's sound is heavy, ponderous, and squared up, and mostly bottom end. Motown players are light, sensitive, lots of top end augmented by rim shots in the accents, particularly in the rack tom.

But as I say, I'm only dealing with a fleeting impression of Zeppelin. Very fleeting.
