DW has started pushing this as well. I have no personal experience other than playing a phonic kit a couple of times. However, it would attribute to Sonor being able to make the shells so thick and still achieve the low end. We all know how shell thickness affects pitch.

I don't. I only think I know that more of it reduces overtones.

You've never heard that a thicker shell produces a higher pitch?

I can tell especially with the segment drum I make..
