Marginally different, perhaps, but nothing nearly so different as the snare sounds. I mean, I can tell that sound is coming through the open hole, usually blocked with the snare in place, but the snare sounds like a completely different machine.
I would have thought that after nigh on fifty years of playing, I would have noticed, but then I never play with a second snare, and I have never been working on two snares at one time before.
