When in the off positon my Lite snare strainer has started rattling when the drum is played, this equals extreme irritation! Anyone know how this can be fixed, it appears to come from the rivet at the base of the arm and there is some 'play' there?

the main one with the movable arm...i'm wondering about disassembling it and pressing the rivet with pliers or something?

I guess you're talking about the extended-wire strainer (X) ? I would first try a bit of grease. Something like Würth HS 2000, which goes on as a liquid then solidifies is good for joints like that. It will not harm the phenolic slider, if there's a bit of slop. If nothing else, if the rattle does go away after application, you'll know you're assessment was correct.

Sorry, yes throw-off 2. It is definitely coming from this joint.

this stuff you mean? Over time the arm has developed some lateral movement which causes the problem.
Do you not think that compressing the rivet is a good idea?

That's the stuff, good for any lube job that requires more than a disappearing oil. Because the valve is German, the flow can be controlled incrementally, so with a bit of practice your finger will learn to spritz just the right amount.

The reason I suggest it is twofold; 1) it will take up space in a joint and provide lube and cushioning to any rattle, and 2) you can pinpoint the problem by applying it, in steps, to anything that might be rattling. There are about five or six points that might vibrate when tension is slackened; how many times have I misdiagnosed the source of rattle ?

If I were certain of the source, and if it did not go away after grease app, then I'd start thinking about compressing the rivet in a vice, where pressure can be applied in increments. Pliers might work, but there is some likelihood of over accidental over-compression; it's too difficult to meter muscles.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm going to be lubing the moving parts of mine. :D
