That's a fantastic reminder not to take yourself too seriously as a drummer, but to aspire to be a musician first, and play as part of an ensemble to boot. "It's easy to sit home and play all kinds of great ideas, great, but then when you're playing with an ensemble, you can't play that shit." No truer words have been said about playing music. And he's playing a set of Yamahas in the photo..... Its not the tool that makes the craftsman, but the craftsman's use of the tool that makes the art.(take that sonor heads) Miss you guys, sorry I've been way too busy to participate in the chats |

I once heard DeJohnette sit down in front of his drums and just play spontaneously for what seemed like about 45 minutes. He never played the same thing twice. And nothing he played seemed the least bit forced or "lickish". I was mesmerized. He is special. BTW -- Cliff, did you get my PM? - D. |
