Hey Greg,

Thanks for posting (or re-posting, as the case may be) this.

Lot's of nice ideas, including those from the bassist (in particular) as well.

Perhaps just my own perception, but there are times where some of the motions involved in Blade's playing look very fluid; others somewhat tortuous.

Yes, I think he plays way out on the edge at times. As I read him, he doesn't always know what he's about to do, and is walking out in faith. The intensity of focus and commitment to digging out something new from the music manifests as you noted.

One question: is the sound tortured or just the visual?

For me, mostly the visual, but some of the times that the stick(s) get kind of buried into head, I think there is an aural element.

I wish I had listened to it first without watching, to have an objective answer as to whether my aural perception was affected by the visual.
