Picked this up over at DFO. Oscar Peterson Trio. I love watching this film, particularly the eye contact between Ed Thigpen and Ray Brown. At some point, Thigpen changes out the brushes for sticks, but I never see where. What is that thing he hung on the post of his ride cymbal at the beginning? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1HBrS23 ... r_embedded |

Looks like there are quite a few clips from that show that I will want to check out. Change to brushes is at 2:09, and is certainly very smooth. Thanks for the link. |

Almost looks like a little match container or dog tag necklace of some kind. Provides a nice primitive (and removable) sizzle sound! I had one of those "rat tails" a long time ago that you could put on your cymbals to imitate sizzle. I don't see them around anymore? - D. |

It can be seen a bit more clearly for a moment in 'part 1' of the series, and I looks to me like a key. |

I would guess, since they're in Italy, it is the hotel room key, great big thing on a great big ring. I remember the days when... ooops. |

I used to collect them; stopped after I had filled one of those 5 gallon water cooler botttles... ...back when they were glass. |

Its because of you guys stealing them all the time that we get stuck with those little key cards that dont like to work late at night or maybe it is operator error |
