I want to avert my eyes. Oh, those poor people. A shame, because the drumming is quite good, once you remove the stick flourishes.

Post subject:  Complete embarrassment?

By today's standards, for sure.

That was the schmaltz that was working in the day.

Before we call it a complete embarrassment, consider (i) that they were not dressed in a retrospective interpretation of Revolutionary War uniforms and tri-cornered hats, (replete with attached ponytails) and, (ii) they appear to be genuinely playing and singing. :?

But I remember seeing this at the time, and I was mortified. For better or worse, they do appear to be singing, in some uncomfortable fashion. I guess I haven't grown much, because I still don't like 'em.

John Barbata was a smokin' drummer. Just so much more talented than most of the guys playing pop music those days. The guy in the Rascals was awesome too. Very underrated drummers.

He has been called "one of the great unappreciated rock drummers in history."
