That may be true, but I wouldn't own a kit of Designers today had Cliff not posted sound files on the internet. :P :D

I have got to get some new stuff done and up here with the Designers and with the Signatures.

... and tell Mapex that I would be happy to post some samples of their drums too, if they will send me a kit to my specs. ;)

That may be true, but I wouldn't own a kit of Designers today had Cliff not posted sound files on the internet.


Risky business. I don't know how you can tell anything from a recording. Except the persons recording skills.

Potentially risky. But had I heard my own H4 recordings of my own drums, I'd have opted for them as well. Not much skill involved.

Mapex is mounting Emperor batters, so that needs to be taken into account when listening.

Hey Kelly,

I think that it depends to a degree on how much you know about the recording. If you know that the recording is not EQ'd or processed in any way, I think it is a useful source of information.

Yes I know the point you are trying to make. In this particular instance you and Greg know enough about each other to fill in the gaps.
In general, I just ignore sound files. Though I do it all the time with cymbals, I don't buy on line because of sound files.

The recorded samples on line hold no water. I've seen people take garbage and record it well.

There was an instance, though unique, that I bought my x-tremes from hearing them on line. My decision was based on watching a guys video and
a) the guy was a phenominal player
b) his kit sounded spectacular
c) his cymbals blew me away. Then he stated he searched non-stop for cymbals for a couple years before discovering the series.

I tried em and been in love ever since.

No argument there. There again, for drums it might be different if it was clear that the clip was sans EQ and any signal processing, and heads and tuning are disclosed.

With cymbals, listening to the 'representative sample' from manufacturer is useless. Even with a guy like Tony from cymbalsonly.com, it is better, but just stick type makes so much of a difference in sound.
