I got a new Ride :D . Bosphorus Versa 20, 2450gms.
I've been checking these out online, and I'd convinced myself  that one of these would be perfect for a specific task.
It will replace my K Custom Hybrid 20, which, worked, but was never what I really wanted.
I wanted a Ride that was kinda Dark/Dry, broad stick definition, with a nice wash for slower more spacious playing. I also wanted a Thinner, Darker, Bell, so you can shoulder it, without ripping your ears off. And, if she was crashable, well, you know, the PERFECT, allusive ,never be found, never been made, Ride Cymbal.

The K, on paper, would do all of these things, Dry from mid bow to (including) Bell, washy closer to the edge, and a very nice Crash too. Remarkable really, the Cymbal is very versatile, BUT!, The cymbal just isn't very nice, not sweet sounding at all, I love the way she responds, everything she does is great, but she needs to sound less like a Garbage Can Lid   , and have that sweet/soft wash with broad Semi Dry definition  , Blah Blah Blah..so on.....Don't get me wrong, I love Turkish Cymbals, Love Trashy dark crashes, but theres Trash and theres Trash.
So, the Versa is definitely not as nice a crash as the K, but this is the least important factor in my choice of Ride cymbal. The Bell is quite thin for 2450gm 20'cymbal, and she is unlathed from Mid Bow to/including Bell, so shes a little darker and soft/sweet compared to the Garbage Can Lid K. She should crash reasonably by shouldering the bow at higher volumes, and my 18' Bos Trad is right there for softer stuff.

Anyways, gets to use her for the first time with the band at rehearsals today (3/4 of the band  ), and see how she goes, I want her to work, because the price I can get her for is ridiculously good, RRP-30%-50% = around $200Au.
There will be updates for those interested  :geek:

Cheers

Congratulations, Jeff. Alway nice to score the perfect ride, but the quest is not over - trust me.

On the odd chance that you don't already know this, it goes like this: Once you have found the 'perfect ride', you stop looking at every cymbal to see if it is 'the one', you start looking at everything with something other than a 'yes it is/no it isn't' perspective, and you start getting new ideas. :o

Pretty soon, we have another definition of the the 'perfect ride', and the quest begins anew. And sure enough, you'll find that perfect one, too. Repeat cycle.

These are the observations of a guy with 40 year (so far) of hunting for, and as least a dozen 'perfect rides'. ;)

Enjoy the one you found, rest up, and enjoy the next search as well.
:?

Ah, I know too well  , hence the ?
Its not my opinion thats changed, those damn cymbals change over the yrs, my old Zildjian MegaBell I used/loved when I played death Metal would sound exactly like my Bosphorus Antique 20 I use/love in the Blues band now, if IT hadn't changed :?  .
We'll see how she goes today, thanks Cliff ;) , I'm smiling  .

Cheers

The PERFECT ride cymbal ...

I could be wrong, but I think that one stays on your list for as long as you are alive and playing drums.

Happy Holidays to you as well.

I'm sure I've bought it before. And MY taste hasn't changed , the Zildjian Z Megabell I used 15yrs ago whilst playing Metal would have been perfect for the Blues/Rock I play now had SHE not changed.
I'll just have to stick with the Bosphorus Antique 20, thats what the Z would have sounded like ,if it hadn't changed

Cheers,Jeff
