Came across a Performer snare the other day. Quite a nice drum, little fatter and more open than my D506, but still typically rather dry in comparison to other non-Ferro steel snares.
Not as articulate, responsive as the D506, but really nice in its own right. Just like the Performer kits, underrated perhaps?
I've heard the Performer shell is thinner than Phonic/Sig Ferros, and less fittings on the shell might allow for more resonance.

Thoughts, opinions, anyone got one,had one, kept one, and taken a little time to check it out :?:

Cheers

Don't know anything about that snare, Jeff. I hear there is at least one dog hunting in the Sonor pack, but that wasn't it. Were I to make an assumption, it would be that a well formed shell with decent hardware and good heads will sound good. And there's always something admirable about seeing Cinderella as she is. :D

I purchased a Performer snare a while back only to match it to the six piece 6-ply beech kit with rounded bearing edges that I already had so that I would have the complete set. I really haven't played around with it too much but it seems to be a good, solid performer (bad pun!). It's not as authoritative or dynamic as my D508 - but you wouldn't expect it to be. It's also not quite in the same class as my 1984 6.5" TAMA Imperialstar snare but it well outperforms my Olympic (Premier).
