So guys, what do you think of it?!?

I can't find a cheap Designer hi hat stand, and the 600 series is just too much...
I need a second hi hat stand, since I sold my Yamaha. The stand I have now (the one Kelly sold me) is just too heavy to carry around. Plus, it's almost NOS, so I'd like to keep it that way, as much as possible... :)
I would like to go with SONOR 400, but if you have other suggestions in that price range - I'd like to hear them...

Options are: Yamaha, Mapex and Gibraltar...
But I must admit, the new yamaha design is NOT to my liking - who thought that foot plate is cool?!?

Hey Goki,
I have been addicted to Eliminator Kick pedals for quite a few years now and have been wanting to try an Eliminator hihat. I don't have any idea what they cost though and don't know if I would like it but it's in the forecast to get one.
Of course I would try some others too.
The 400 series I think would be fine if you could find one cheap enough. I think they still have the swivel leg and are double chained? I don't remember. And I know I've had some.
I didn't like the 400 kick pedals. It seemed it was wearing out quickly, wasn't going to hold up to the abuse. I just wouldn't have trusted it for gigging unless I had spares.
Was a time I wouldn't have owned anything else, it had to be Sonor. But now I see too many other manufacturers putting out great stuff. It's Sonor's pricing that has encouraged me to look elsewhere.

I've had more than a few 600 Series Hihat stands. I don't know if it was the way I was using them or not but the rod always seemed to get bent. I've heard one other person say this. I certaintly wasn't doing anything unusual with mine but I haven't heard many other complaints either. So ???. I love the way they feel though.

The pull on the rod is straight down, so there'd be no reasonable way the rod would bend in normal operation. I can imagine that the rod might get bent in transportation, but in twenty five years I've never bent one (same rod is on the Sig hat).

Shane advised me away from 400 kick pedals because he thought they might not be durable. He shoots pretty straight as he sees it. But I have no experience with the 400 series... or with non-Sonor hat stands, so can't be helpful.

Honestly Greg, I never looked into what might have caused it.
I never even knew it until I took a couple down to sell. And had to reveal to the seller the rods were slightly bent. I wasn't gigging and they weren't bent when I put them up.

Another thing about them; the clutch is terrible. It takes no time at all to seriously dig up your rod.

That's also my advice on the 400 pedal.

Two words: Signature clutch.

I dislike the way screw-in clutches shred rods, but the rod can be dressed for smoothness. Out of curiosity, how good are other manufacturers' clutchs? And while on the topic, the quick release clutch, when using double pedals, seems a very good idea.

My Sonor Signature clutch is awesome! I have many other clutches as well. Of those, I like my DW and Gibraltar clutches.

I adore the hexagonal rod on the older SONOR hi hat stands... And the clutch... Absolutely nothing can come lose...

I don't know whether the new 400 series hi hats have the round rod, or the hex one... (I think it's a regular round one).

I had a Yamaha 700 series hihat and it worked great - I've used it since 1997... Except for the clutch - I remember the wing coming loose on several gigs... ;)

The ONLY trouble I have with the SONOR (Lite/Hilite/Signature) stand I have now, is that it's just a bit heavy to drag around...
Although - very stable and never loosens...

Hey Barry,

Good to see you. I use the DW drop clutch as well. If I recall correctly, the Gibraltor drop clutch looks like it could be a license of the same patent. Do I remember that right?

I still have my drop clutches from years ago. Man I remember when they were gold, extremely hard to find.

Goki, the 400 series is hex rod also.
I don't miss those link era hihat's. Just like the pedals they are a bit slow, heavy feeling. Things are so light, fast and smooth now.

I would love to have a Signature clutch. Whenever they come up for sale though the entire world jumps on them.

My impression without weighing the two (Sig vs. 600) is that they are fairly close in weight.
