On drums...

Just wanted to share some pictures of (what used to be) my Hilite set:

Here's the "regular" 12" tom:


And here is the 14" tom:


Here's the inside of the bass drum:


No matter what heads I used - the 14" ALWAYS stood out of the rest of the toms (10,12 and the 16 floor I added later).
The bass drum - I had no objections regarding it - IT was the best one I played...

Rev mentioned those were probably prototype shells... And I bought them from a respected seller... No scam ideas there...
So - the only logical explanation was that they were a prototype or a custom wanted order...

No matter what - they served me well, and I'm sure the guy that bought them will use them for decades to come...

There is definitely a different look to those plys. What it is is anyone's guess. This phenom has been ran through the ringer so many times over the years only to end up with varying opinions and hypothesis. Usually ending up with just more questions and the final verdict being Sonor has no idea.
I think I see 9plys on both. Have you ever measured the shells?
I think during the link era Sonor would have done pretty much anything anyone asked. No telling what that is. I wouldn't be comfortable guessing by the sound of the drum.

How Sonor shows them now:

Kelly - the shell on my 14" tom was 4-5mm thick...
The bass drum was also bellow 7,5mm (around 6mm)...

They were totally different from the F3K shells - I know because I had both sets at the same time and was able to compare side by side...


Yup - SONOR usually has no idea... But they always tried to work for the musicians. If a famous drummer wanted a different shell in size or thickness - they did it...

Just look at the SONOR oddities...

For example - a drummer back here has an 18"x16" (9lugs) Force 2000 floor tom... That's NOT in any catalog...

I don't know if there is a difference Goki in shell construction, and I've had both Force 3000's and Force Maple, but the first pic I put up is a Force Maple.
I am merely looking at the bearing edge ply's and the difference in color of the ply's.
I think my point is, I would never be able to guess what a drum is by looking at the ply's. I just wouldn't put much stock in what the inner ply looks like either.
None of this can answer the question of course. Could be anything....Birch, a thinner Maple shell...etc

Edit: Well hell...now I feel like I just harrassed the crap out of ya. Sorry my friend.
