just picked up one of these puppies the other day, amazed at how good it sounds and the fact it costs half as much as a Zildjian Constantinople
! honestly side by side with the 'big 3' this was better

Anyone else got experience of these?

Hey Nick,

Don't have any experience directly with Meinl, but I just passed through Memphis a few days ago and picked up a 20" Paiste Twenty Series Thin.

Memphis always has a good inventory of cymbals, well displayed. To me, the Constantinople line does not even seem like a good comparision to the cymbal in the video.

Interested in hearing further impressions. Nice getting a new ride to get familiar with, eh?
;)

I have been super super impressed with Meinl lately. Next big cymbal expense will be Meinl for me. The Soundcaster crashes sound great to my ear. Their Powerride is supposed to be the "it" for rock. Can't wait to try it.

Meinl is a great buy for sure. I like the cymbal in the video.

Yup - MEINLs are great value - both for sound and $$$...

If You like Benny Greb - You can't go wrong!!!

I completely switched to Meinl this year. They make awesum stuf for a very reasonable price. I am really fond of the Byzance jazz series. Got a 18" extra thin crash which is really great. If you got the chance, look at the Sand ride by Benny Greb or his Sand-hats. If you want something special: the extra dry series are really something different.
Speaking of Benny: he uses a thin jazz ride as a crash. Sounds really good, low and dirty, almost like a "sophisticated" china

I did try the Sand ride in the shop but it wasn't what I was looking for, I have a Fierce Ride which does the same job but much better, try it if you haven't yet :D . I have seen Greb play a couple of times and listened to the online stuff but I must be missing something as he gets a lot of kudos on the net, he does a solid job but nothing outstanding or remarkable. Gergo Borlai (another Meinl player) on the other hand is exceptional, it seems he can do it all!
I was tempted by the extra dry ride but the Jazz had a bit more colour and shimmer.

I don't get the Greb thing either Percusski. But then there is a few out there right now I don't get. Must be the really young crowd?? One in particular, I can't think of his name right now, but is down right aweful. The double bass guy with the long hair. I'll edit when his name comes to me.

I don't go by online cymbals either. I get nothing out of sound files. I listen to a few opinions that I trust though but then I have to try it in person anyway. I heard the sandz hats are awesome but haven't heard them in person.
Would like to find a place somewhere that has the whole Meinl line. GC has a few of the Souncaster series that I tried out and really really liked them.

Yeah, I've seen that Borlai guy on YouTube. Technical very, very OK but no groove at all. Just playing notes, and as fast as possible. That's the difference what is so appealing of Benny Greb for a lot of guys. Groove, groover, groovest.
