Just picked up a Designer 14x5 snare in red sparkle. It is an early model with stuck on badge and the old Lite/Hilite strainer. The date stamp is sadly unintelligible and there doesn't appear to be a number on the badge :cry:
It is however is perfect condition and i'm slowly 'getting to know' this drum.
I'm trying to recreate Gary Novak's snare sound on Chick's Paint The World album, which i understand was recorded with a Designer drum of this size... and happens to be the best recorded and sounding snare drum in music history (this is an official fact).
This puppy is going to have a mountain of competition to live up to though as I have two Lite snares 14x4 and 14x7.25 to compare it to :D

Hey Nick,

You have your 'facts' wrong.

Designer ML 14x8 is clearly the "the best recorded and sounding snare drum in music history", closely followed by the Designer ML 14x6 1/2...

...and with a couple years non-stop work, I can make either the 'most recorded in history'. :? :lol:

All this time I was wrong. I thought the Sonor SQ 2 14x6 Acrylic is the best recorded snare. :lol: Hope to see some pics of your new drum. Enjoy it!

Actually my old George way is my go to, but I haven't had a chance to get my sonorlite snare in the studio yet.

I just received some devastating news, someone on the Sonormuseum site has done some research and it turns out Novak was using Yamaha drums when he recorded that album, could it be that the best recorded snare sound is actually a Yamaha drum? :cry:
