Well, as I was talking with a few of you in a recent thread about needing to get rid of my Ludwig kit for space issues when I stumbled upon this gem: http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/msg/2325851142.html I know I shouldn't...and perhaps will need a gracious family member to store some things BUT... I sent an e-mail and plan on calling later today to set up an appointment to check 'er out! I was just wondering if this is a good price for a Vintage kit? It seems like it to me, and even sounds like I could get it down a bit. With that said, there may be a reason for a low price...what things should I look for as being "standard" on one of these '60's bop kits? |

Dunno. Doesn't look promising. Six lugs on the bass drum indicates an introductory level kit. Shells should not be oak, and I doubt they are, but probably unwrapped and varnished beech. Can't see it well enough to be sure, but the lugs look too large to be Teardrops. Crap shoot on the entire thing. Maybe worth checking out, you never know. Period Zildjians, if that's what they are, can be worth quite a bit. |

Thanks for the advice, guys. I also did a little more research on Sonor 60's kits this morning so I'm a little better prepared. I still plan on checking it out since it's only about an hour from me but I have little to no expectations of a purchase now. |

By the way, the bass does not look like an 18", or even a 20" Looks 22" by proportion. |

So, here's the reply I received: 1. I am not the original owner, but have been the owner for 10 years this spring. There are markings on the inside of the drum. 2. It has all the original hardware except 1 lug on the high tom and the bass drum has a replaced wing nut. 3. Attached is a pick of the hoop guard. 4. There are superficial scratches on each drum. I also attached picks of the scratches that are worth noting. The lugs are a weird plastic resin of some kind with metal inserts and chrome finish. Also a pic of this. Here are the photos:         I don't know...it looks pretty beat up and, as mentioned previously, it seems like a "low-end" Sonor kit to boot. |

Yup. Swingers from 1972. Drums to get the young player. Stripped of whatever wrap it had. Six ply beech shells, teardrop T rods, plastic lugs. My guess is your Ludwigs are a better kit. |

Leave it as it is Julian - it's not a great kit. It would be just a vintage kit that would be good to play on, but never to carry on a gig...  I had an Amati from the 60s, for about 3 months. I'm sad I sold it, yes - but I doubt I would have performed with it... |
