I just don't get it at all. I mean are they gonna sound like they are worth $49000?!?! Nah I'm guessing they will sound a bit like playing cardboard boxes!

Drum collector subculture, not necessarily players, with money. Not sure he's gonna get the asking price, but it gives world-wide advertising.

Seems to me redolent of the era. Were I a collector, that would be about as neat a prize as I can imagine, short of a kit with pedigreed ownership. Here's a guy who commisioned a single ply kit, made with Slingerland beavertail lugs and Rogers Swiv-o-matic hardware, and covered with that finish. Wonder what that cost him! His avatar suggests ownership of one of the old sets, although I don't know.
