Post subject:  Anyone with a suggestion?!?

Friends of ours were in Germany for the Holidays.
I've ordered them a set of Latino stands (11" and 11.75") from Thomann.

They arrived today and voila - they brought me 2 stands for the 11" conga, instead of 2 separate stands (for the 11" and 11,75").
Since they threw away the original packaging - returning the item is not an option (a repackaging fee would be charged, plus the shipping costs from here to Germany are like a new stand)...

Any suggestions?!?
1) Ordering a new stand - which would cost me like buying a pair of them... :(
2) Begging the SONOR factory to somehow send me just the rim for the stand - which would cost me as a full stand...
3) Finding someone to make a rim here - unfortunately, I don't know the diameter of the rim.
4) ?!?!?!??!?

ANY help is appreciated...

Do you have pics of the stands? Could you just use some rubber tubing on one to make the height the same?

If both stands were for the larger conga, I would have done that. BUT, both are for the smaller one, and the larger just sticks out...

I guess option 3) is the only logical and cost-worthy solution...

Send your friends back to Germany? :P

I'm sorry, Goki, That is really frustrating. I looked at Thomann's catalog but do not know enough about the stands to see what you got.

Cut a groove in the conga to fit the stand..

That is frustrating. Is the height of the larger conga too much? If not, you could find a way to extend the legs for the shorter one to match.

Lucky me - Thomann agreed to come to the rescue!!!

They'll be sending a replacement rim (ring) since the stand feet are the same...

Thank You Lord...   Let's hope my post doesn't lose it in transport...

Fantastic. The only suggestion not made: "Ask." :) :) :)

Yeah!!!

The ring arrived yesterday - this time everything was "as it should"... :)

But when I put together the stands, in the lowest possible position, we realized the SONOR congas stood higher than the MEINL congas, which made problems to Marta. I know, 2.5" is small, but the hand position is not normal, so it hurts after a while... I'm still talking about congas on stands here...

So, while looking for the safest place to cut the legs of the stands (which I was totally against but looks I had no option) I saw that the rubber sips that are holding the conga, can be removed (and the hole is NOT in the center).
GREAT!!! This "rotation switch" made the height drop down by almost 2", and the congas are still perfectly safe (no chance for scratches from the stands)...

A happy-ending for sure!!!

:D :D :D

Nice.

That had to be one of theose attitiude changing moments when you realized that there was a simple (and apparently designed-in) solution.

Well, today's market took it's toll. If these stands were from the 80s, there would have been a hole in the metal leg, and the rubber would have been molded on the leg, in order to prevent You from (ever) removing it.
In the last decade, they would have used some sort of glue, or tape...

But now, they just slip the rubber onto the leg... Lucky for me... :D

Usually, I'm 100% against modifying hardware or drums...
