These last 4 weeks have been horrible. Constant after work events (repair a PC, friends, relatives, everything I can think of), that led to NO TIME whatsoever to go and have a rehearsal. Plus, I managed to somehow strain my back and revive the injury I have - my right foot is killing me. For things to be worse, Marta is not allowed to lift heavy stuff, so all her equipment falls on my back too. Lucky for me, the 3 other band members always help - but I do all the put-in take-out from the car (all the gear goes in my station wagon ) All in all - difficult gigs, the last 3... Nevertheless, finally, we had a chance to have a band rehearsal - and I set behind the S Classix... WOOWWWWW - I'm totally hooked to the birch sound, I like that dryness, and response. Totally fits my style... And the style of the band (if not, they can always try other bands... ). Can't wait to say "goodbye" to the Catalina club set... It's great, especially the floor tom, and as light as the S Classix, but it doesn't have the richness in tonal expression as the S Classix (and I use same heads, top and bottom). Plus, the 5 lug 12" tom is really annoying at times... |

Sounds like a long haul, Goki. Glad you finally got to rehearse. Nothing worse than friends and relatives. Yep, "expressive" is the word I used for Classix. Don't know if it's the birch or shell thickness or both, but shifting dynamics changes their sonic character. A powerful stroke is not just a loud version of a light stroke, and dynamic shifts are somehow easier to achieve. Don't know the Catalinas, but I certainly don't the way you do about my Gretsch kit. Yesterday I spent six hours at rehearsal with it, and what a pleasure. I think what I like most about it is that it still takes me by surprise, because, when compared to Designers, its character is more complex and biting. What heads are you running on the Cats, and how are they tuned? Or do you care to think about them any longer? |

Catalinas are nothing like your Gretsch drums, Gregory. Brian |

Played them again last night (we managed to score a weekly gig, in a lounge bar). I had the most wonderful time - again. I simply can't believe how the band sound changed, for the better. The S Classix has it all - dynamics, articulation, and ease of playing. God, I love this drums... |

Goki, I am sure that there are purposes for that kit that no other Sonor will fill as well. The few times I played mine in musical situations, I was amazed at the transparent quality of the sound, and how easy they were to play. I look forward to your getting the 18 and 16, so that you have an all-rounder. I really am delighted that you love them. Maybe one day, a virgin Classix bop kit in a white pearl wrap may show up and follow me home. They are so light, all you have to do is walk and they come along in your draft. |

That's awesome Goki! Gotta love it when the sounds and feel of the drums alone bring such joy. |
