I missed this but thank you just the same Goki.
I have always found it amazing that you remember and express your condolences
about events that didn't even occur in your own homeland.
Usually things affect me by the degree in which I am associated with it. I do try to sympathize with what others have gone through but it is something I have to do consciously, with thought and effort.

9/11 still, and I hope forever, makes most Americans sick. Sadness for so many innocent lives lost but a constant reminder that evil can show up at any given moment. Peace and safety can be robbed in a split second. A reminder to enjoy today. Tomorrow might not be so enjoyable.

Thanks for the reminder and the observance, Goki. I did not - could not - forget the event, but I have a terrible time associating a date in the calendar with the present moment. I have to rely on calendar alarms to jolt me out of the stupor of the now. Today is an achingly beautiful morning here, just as it was in NYC on that day. Deep blue skies, crisp, clear air, a light breeze, and the promise of comfortable warmth later on. There are worse things afoot in the world, many of them far more dangerous because we either ignore or just can't see them. But 9/11 stands out as a decision making moment: do I believe in good and evil, or do I believe in "relative values"? People rail against the illusory tyranny of the former, and in so doing invite the absolute tyranny of the latter.
