I had a chance to listen to Kahil El'Zabar at a jazz history workshop... The man was phenomenal - his insight on jazz culture, history and future is of great value!!!

Then, I had a chance to talk to him a bit - we talked a bit about SONOR drums. He said he "avoids" them because they're a bit heavy to carry - I naturally suggested him to try the S classix when he has a chance... ;)

And in the evening, Marta and me listened to him - he was GREAT on percussion, and filled with energy - like a teenager!!!

I have the utmost respect for him - a true Jazz GREAT!!!

I also got a chance to listen to Gene Coye (with Larry Carlton), Eric Montzka :o (Patricia Barber), TEUN VERBRUGGEN (a very nice drummer for the FLAT EARTH SOCIETY (Belgium) ), Paolo Vinaccia and Frank Jakobsen (TERJE RYPDAL & BERGEN BIG BAND "Crime Scene" (Norway) ).

Eric was amazing (best of all on the jazz festival), and Gene has a GREAT career ahead of him!!!

All in all - 4 days of lovely jazz music...
It's great we have a chance to enjoy this kind of stuff back here - although it's only once in a year...

Sounds like a great time, Goki! What most caught my attention is how musicians, at least when they're playing, don't seem to have the deficits of age about them. Keeps ;em young. :D
