You and Teri have a great journey. I hope your Thanksgiving is productive and joyful, and we'll see you and Roland here a few days later. :D ;) Via con dios.

Greg / Kelly,

It is indeed that time of year again. Teri, Charlie and I are in Memphis, TN, en route to CT. Thanks for the good wishes.

We swore, many years ago, that we were done travelling through Arkansas, and I think I am going to take that vow a little more seriously. A one hour standstill and a damaged windshield this time.

The highways (the lanes that aren't closed, pretending to be subject to some kind of work) are like driving across a statewide washboard, which make them even more annoying at low speeds than at what should be highway speeds.

I think all the lane closures, with absolutely nothing going on are just the best way they know of to get tourists to spend more time in the state.

What can one expect from a state best known for Bill Clinton and Walmarts? :?

In fairness, they have a very nice rest area on the TX/AK border. They should consider selling donuts; I bet a lot of Texans would feel sorry for them and come over on Sundays to help out.

The other option that comes to mind would be kind of like selling deer leases, except they could be 'bombing leases'. For a nominal annual amount, you could buy a lease and practice anything from aerial bombing to close range detonations. Arkansas could raise a few bucks, and save some money on the demolition required prior to rebuilding.
:?

 Reminds me of my last trip to Chicago via Highway 55. Sounds like a good enough reason to take a(nother) "detour" through Missouri next time! :D

Safe travels to you all, Cliff!

Stimulus dollars at work. Not stipulated in the program is method.

On that subject, up here we have two seasons: Winter & Road Construction. Sometimes the two get a little mixed up.
