This is what I heard someone in the industry say after John Robinson left Yamaha for DW in 2010 after about 30 years with Yamaha...
"Yamaha sacked their Artist Relations team in the US. This has caused a big stir among Yamaha artists and JR decided to leave."

Weird, but could be a factor. Peter Erskine, another long time Yamaha guy, left for DW a few years back too.

I heard that as well, but with Erskine they basically told him he was irrelevant as an endorser any more because he wanted them to make flat based cymbal stands and other products that make a working drummers load lighter.

It's truly sad, they have had quite a roster for a long time and to lose it the way they are is quite telling of the current artist relations climate in the music business.
