Picked this up from DFO, relayed from somewhere else, probably Cymbalholics:
We are quite proud of the work we've done with Bosphorus Cymbals, but a long standing inability for them to coinsistently provide us with cymbals proved to be untennable. It was our intention to announce this change and to ask all of the fans of this page to make that transition with us, but we applied to FaceBook for a name change and they approved and applied it without warning. Please give us a few days to redesign this page and please stay with us as fans. We want to emphasize that our same team is in place. The same artists, marketing, distribution, dealers and so on have been very supportive of this change. Our new brand, Crescent Cymbals, will produce the only artist approved versions of the popular Jeff Hamilton and Stanton Moore models, as well as updated versions of many of the same models you've known us for. We will now focus our attention on Crescent Cymbals exclusively. Look for us to be available September 2012. Thank you all for your support. Give us a chance as Crescent and we will rise the bar even higher. Hilarious. I had a bit of business dealings with Michael Vosbein, who yelled at me when I asked him for written confirmation that he would stand behind a cymbal with a crack in it. Told me that if I doubted "the word of the president of the company...," I could go to hell. Well, this is why I didn't just take his word. Any bets on what "a long standing inability for them to consistently provide us with cymbals..." means? Any bets what Crescent Cymbals will be? My money is on relabeled Dirils. Any bets whether I'll be buying any? Not a chance. |

Gregory - I sincerely doubt they would be DIRILs... Diril used to work for Bosphorus or Istanbul, but has a steady job now, and a cooperation with PAISTE, and probably MEINL. I think that some craftsmen that left Bosphorus are now "hammering Crescents in some basement"... Istanbul has at least 20 cymbal makers. And they're all good. Bosphorus, Istanbul Agop etc... The ONLY thing that ALL the Turkish cymbal makers can't provide is SOUND CONSISTENCY... No two cymbals are alike. And it's very obvious why - they make them completely by hand, and only when finished, clasiffy them (somehow) sound-wise... The low price (in Turkey) compensates for the tonal variation... |

Hey, Goki. The reason you don't think it would be Diril is because he used to work for Bosphorus? That would seem to me to be all the more reason to use him. What I have heard is that the manufacturer is a company we have heard of, and not a new formation by Master Cymbals. But who knows. I thought sound consistency was not the friend of musicality, as evidenced by Paiste. Should I see individuality as a negative? Just gives me more opportunity to refine the tonal palette. What are you doing posting this morning? Shouldn't you be at the postoffice? |
