...in the past 10 days!!!

Marta and me went to Slovenia - to visit her relatives in Maribor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maribor
The stay was fantastic - plenty of time for shopping, walking, enjoying the nature...

We had a wonderful time - went to see the local museum and all the interesting sites... I'm a historic lover, so it was the right thing to do... :D

Even went to the 2 (two) drum shops in Maribor. None of them had Sonor or Zildjian - Yamaha, DDrum, Tamburo, Paiste and Sabian.
The heads were expensive (which makes sense, because Slovenia has a very good living standard), so I brought nothing back...

Night life in Slovenia was like Superman - doesn't exist at all... Everything is dead after 10pm. There was a Jazz club in Ljubljana, with nothing "on the menu" during our stay... :(

All in all - it was a fantastic week...

The disappointment came on the way back - stuck in a bus for 16 hours, with 5 of the rudest people on the face of the earth.
God, I wish "my countrymen" were a bit more civilized...

haha! Awesome Goki.

Is that you in the pic?
You should have grabbed the rifle for the bus ride back.
Can't imagine 16 hours on a bus with someone I like, nevermind rude people.

Awesome, Goki. I wish I had thought to tell you to seek out my favorite (really!) modern surf instrumental band in the world; The Bitch Boys!

All the Best,

If I had known you were going to Ljubliana I would have told you how to get down to the old Russian Military base squat, where they have 4 shows a night. Not always great, but definitely some cool improv music, loud rock, experimental weirdness, and wicked cheap beer. Its down by the train station.
I love that town, did you go to the castle?
Glad you had a good trip!!

Thanx Brian - they sound great... :)

Tim - we didn't have a chance to stay in Ljubljana at night. The idea was to stay one night at a friend's place, IF they had something in the Jazz club... But - no show resulted in no stay... ;)

Most of the time we were in Maribor - they had an artist colony which looked great, but we didn't catch anything during the nights... :(

But, the sightseeing was one-of-a-kind... Both Maribor and Ljubljana... :)

A few days to see everything is way too little - but I had to come back to work, and Marta needed to get back to her studies... So... :(

Hopefully, when we have more cash stashed aside - we'll enjoy more of Slovenia... :)

Nice pics, Goki! Makes me want to travel... though not necessarily enough to want to deal with airports!

Thanks Cliff - we've been postponing for 2 years. Now, we finally decided to go.
The bank where I have my credit cards didn't mind too... They have great "interest" in me...

I enjoy traveling Gregory - the only problem is that people from my country are not exactly welcome everywhere.
Low standard (most earn $300 a month) means a lot of abroad-workers from back home.
Lots of immigrants means strict entering rules, involving visas and tons of other papers.

While I was working as a school teacher, I wasn't permanently employed. Every year, I signed a contract.
Marta was a student and a part time worker. No chance for visa whatsoever.
Now, on the other hand, I have a permanent employment. Marta and I are married. I can provide all the necessary documents, proving I'll leave the country and come home in the time stated. Plus, we have a visa-free regime now, with the EU countries.

Slovenia is behind - now we're starting to dream bigger...
It's time to pay a visit to my relatives in New York. But I need to save some extra cash, so I'd be able to see some of my friends too, if possible... ;)

8-)
