We had initially hoped to keep the registration process as open as possible, and had removed any requirement for administrative approval for a new member to gain access to the board.

Over the past few days, Greg and Kelly have been inundated with spam posting by newly registered users. My thanks to both of them for all of the housekeeping they have done recently.

We have elected to revert to requiring admin approval before activating a user account, to eliminate the spam issue.

Also, please use your real name, and no 'throw-away' email addresses (e.g. gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.) to make it easier to indentify legitimate new registrations.

We will do our best to try to grant access to legitimate new members in a timely manner going forward, but please be patient.

Thanks.

Brian,

If you want to, I will look into it, but I am really more concerned with the ability to discern legitimate new registrations from spammers.

I really have done nothing. Greg has been mopping up. He is the official janitor now.

We are still getting 50+/- spam applications per day to join the forum, and it is difficult to assign a high level of due diligence to a low yield process.

As a reminder, please use your real name, and no 'throw-away' email addresses (e.g. gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.) to make it easier to indentify legitimate new registrations.

Unless we happen to recognize a familiar 'handle', all applications without real names are lost in the spam and get rejected.

Sorry Cliff. The consolation is you're doing a great job. The atmosphere here is top notch.
