On drums...

Let's just say... you're a man of transferring allegiances.

There are very few drums that excite my interest (though not necessarily my curiosity), with the notable exception of a 20x 16 Designer bubinga bass to round out my kit. You have hit upon an interesting vein to mine, Kel. We look forward to hearing about the new kit after you've had time to get acquainted.

It's going to be a while before I really understand Premier. But they are initially remarkable sounding, great looking and priced very comfortably.
Really looking forward to the 20 x 18 Marquis kick. But if I don't prefer the Marquis sound over the regulars I'll be looking for a 20 x 18 regular kick or complete kit with one.
One day I would really like to see one of those Walnut kits.

I seem to be in the same boat as Gregory on this one. Sonor's earlier models appeal to me and, after hearing a Custom USA kit in DC, so do some early Grestch models but there's few current models (from any company) which raise my eyebrow.

With that said, I know very little about Premier drum sets except from some of the photo's and comments posted on the forum (which I'm still catching up on from my hiatus). I am; however, a fan of the grains and color combinations Premier seems to offer.

Premier makes great drums, Justin, in my opinion similar to Sonor in terms of shell build quality and guiding acoustical theory. And they're real bargains. They're hard to find over here: poor marketing and uncertainty about the future of the company's ability to supply spares have not encouraged sales.

David could probably enlighten us on Premier's history, but these Signia and Marquis kits are from Premier's yesteryear. From what I understand they are currently barely alive I think making just two kits to choose from.
There are a couple other Premier series with a cult following, Genista's being one of them.

And like Sonor, 8 toms from bygone days are hard as hell to find.

Figures that all the "good" drums seem to be a thing of the past. I'm not totally off-put by the models currently produced but there seems to be something speical missing...

I'd chose a Designer kit over a Delite or S-Classix almost any day (for style and, most likely, price).

I hear you on this one. My position has always been that Skutooz are for the guys that missed Designers.

Honestly, if I owned SQ2's and had no exposure to Designers, I would be happy with the sound, but I am even more certain that given the side-by-side choice between Designers to my spec and SQ2's to my spec, I would choose the Designers every time.

Like everyone else, I took the risk of ordering what I thought was exactly right for me, and unike many others, mine did turn out to be exactly right for me, with the eventual addition of an 18x16 kick drum. If I were to order them again today, I would get the exact same sizes, material and construction.

When another kit became available a few months ago, also maple light, in the exact same sizes (except for a 10x8 instead of an 8x8), I was extremely grateful to be able to acquire a second 'no compromise' Designer kit to use playing out.

A number of times, I had considered ordering SQ2's, and over time several SQ2 kits that were pretty close to the ideal configuration have come up, but only when the second Designer kit came up was it easy to make an instant decision to go for them.

Premier is trying to get back in the business. If this attempt fails, I think they'll quit forever...

Nice lineup, but Premier always had poor choice when it came to hardware - UNLESS it was their top line (Signia, 5000 series, I think). The quality approved when Yamaha owned them, since they left them the hardware molds. But lugs and stuff were known to break very easily...

I wish they come back strong - never liked them as a drum sound, apart from the Signia (the Genista is too muddy for my taste, unlike the S Classix or the Force 3000 set), but I hope they survive the tuff times!!!
