On drums...

..., stand and case. But what's going on with the snare mechanism? If it has never left the bedroom, how did this happen? By the serial number, I would have thought an early snare, but the attachments to the cross bars are late style.

Gregory can you elaborate on the differences? I see nothing wrong, but I've never paid close attention...

Late style, bent bars with simple screw attachments to the end plates that are recessed to hold the bars.



Early style, straight bar, with complex attachments: Knurled thumb screws and knurled locking nuts.



The snare in question has straight bars, but with the late style end plates.

Ahhhh, I see.

It is possible that there was a transition period where the straight bars were still used and the bizarrely complex attachment points were abandoned. I've never seen one before,but now that I look at the '84 catalog, the bars appear to be straight. No direct shots to see them clearly.

I read the ad too quickly. It states mid to late '80s. That mechanism is definitely not late '80s, but it could well be mid. My bad.

If I recall, speculation was that the bent bars were meant to keep the mechanism from landing on some snare stand baskets when snares were turned off.
