Zildjian labeled this cymbal as a 20" K Custom Pre-aged Dry Light Ride – s/n IG 2982-026. I bought it used on ebay several years ago • It is not dry • It is not light (2090 grams) • The only sign of pre-aging was apparent exposure to a beer bath(s), requiring a thorough cleaning. Zildjian could not have predicted this. • It is a good sounding ride, if you are not expecting ‘dry’ or ‘light’ The cleaning has taken care of the mis-labeling problem, and I may have owned it long enough for it now to be legitimately ‘pre-aged'. Dunno. I think is is a pretty decent rock cymbal, with a strong bell, and a bit of wash. $125 plus shipping. Sound file available here. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Dry" in Zildjian's terminology can quite often mean "heavy", as in the heavier a ride is the less it will "wash out" and hence be "dry". So in my mind, the "dry" and "light" in Zildjian's description together can be somewhat of an oxymoron. I still love many of their cymbals though and, to my ear, my Zildjian 21" Special Dry Ride is probably my favorite all-around jazz ride cymbal ever, and I've played thousands. - D. |

Hey David, I agree with you that Zildjian uses some of these terms differently than I would, but if this cymbal were compared against, for example any of the A Rock Rides, past or present, all of those Rock Rides would be both heavier and dryer. Go figure, eh? I have not ever played a Special Dry Ride, but I do have a 20" K Custom Dry Light Ride, which is unlathed on both sides, and is one of my all-time favorite jazz rides. I have played a fair number of rides, but not thousands. Where did you get that kind of exposure? Do I remember correctly that you are in the Massachussetts area? Do you have / have you had some access to Zildjian? |

I haven't played hundreds. Okay, not even one hundred. Okay maybe twenty. Okay, as I count back, I currently have four, so... eight rides over 50 years of playing. ![]() ![]() |
