Thanks Greg! Yeah, was really lucky that Hale dug up the 8" tom and brought it to my attention. I've kind of given up on finding a matching 8x14 birch snare (although I do have one in green sparkle and it sounds phenomenal). Might be an SQ order at some point in the future though....just need to make sure they can match the Designer yellow.

With the understanding Gunnar, that you might be and probably are, still a purist, and how this suggestion might defriend us for life :(
You could have the shell made from any number of reputable builders on line, to any spec you would like (vertically ran, 3mil undersized...etc)
Gather the hardware on-line, parts off some spares you might have etc...
And come in at a joke compared to the cost of SQ2.

I am having Phonic Plus shells made to goof around with, just for the fun of it.
Right now a 6(diameter) by 8, Beech, vertical grained, 45 edges....is in the works. Total cost...68 bucks.
I have the hardware minus the hoops, two hoops...15 each.

I just think the whole SQ2 thing is a huge ass waste of pesos.

Not a bad idea Kel & as much of a purist as I am, the thought has actually crossed my mind. You're right about the SQ pricing....borderline insane these days (and apparently there was recently another price hike). I pretty much live under a rock, so wasn't aware of the extent that you could specify shell construction when ordering through some of those manufacturers. Good to know. The 6 x 8 sounds like a fun project, you'll have to let us know how it turns out. I remember a couple shots you took a (long) while ago of some various 6" Sonor toms you had. Always thought that was some of the best drum porn ever. Those certainly aren't getting any easier to find!

Well you see....
Once upon a time....countless moons ago....there were giants in the land. REAL giants with REAL friends. They played together and they laughed together. I know! I didn't believe it either, but it is true.
The VJ's and the Gunnars and the Kelly's. These guys were legends.
Oh I've heard the stories. Grandpa would strike a match, and with a long pause, raise it to his pipe. With the creak of his old rocking chair, settled into the warm glow of the fireplace....face lit up like an angel.
Flannel shirt riddled with burn holes. To this day no one believed he had never burned the house down or at the very least, went out in a blaze of glory.
This young lad just listened...never said a word. I've never seen Grandpa happier.
Except maybe when Grandma passed away.
Yeah, she wasn't nice.
At all.
Ever.
Nagged him to no end.
Think thats why he tried to burn himself up.
He prayed daily for years that he would die. Or at least that someone, out of the goodness of their hearts, would mail her a box of syphilis.
God works in mysterious ways doesn't he.
Anyway, what was I saying....
Oh yeah....the Giants. Well (cough), sadly, we are left with only the pretenders. The frauds. The Mitch's and Poindexters....the list goes on and on and on.
Like a grateful dead song.

Anyways, I reserved a few of the pics that Grandpa left me. He had to keep them hidden of course. Always moving them from one place to the next. On the account of Grandma using them to line the litterbox. Most were lost forever. Covered in cat piss.
The bitch.

Nice montage, Kelly.

The pictures of you and Greg at your place, you and me at your house are treasures as well.

Some great memories from the times that I have been able to get together with you, Greg, Goki and Gunnar. ;)

Wish we could all get in the same room some time.
