I only knew George Colligan as a piano player; I had no idea that he was a drummer as well.

That's a fantastic reminder not to take yourself too seriously as a drummer, but to aspire to be a musician first, and play as part of an ensemble to boot.

I once heard DeJohnette sit down in front of his drums and just play spontaneously for what seemed like about 45 minutes. He never played the same thing twice. And nothing he played seemed the least bit forced or "lickish". I was mesmerized. He is special.
