Taking that question seriously.... Lug v.2 has no goo in it, and that suggests that the presence of goo in the earlier lug was an afterthought. And the fact that Sonor redesigned the retaining system suggests that they were well aware of the problem.
Early lugs would have required a touch of thread locker on the receiver assembly threads to prevent the two halves from coming apart when the rods are loosened. I thought it likely that the person in charge of squirting a dab of thread locker went bonkers on the day he made mine. However, now that I have seen the same gluey mess in other early lugs, I assume it was there to correct the problem that was solved by the later version lugs.
