If I were a studio pro, I'd probably collect (in the sense of have a lot of) snares in order to have a palette of musical colors on hand. Gigging with one or two bands, on the other hand, I'd just find that collection confusing, and would only use one most of the time. Too much trouble trying to guess which drum would be perfect.
If I had some extra funds, I'd like to have a few snares to work with; it's always interesting to discover whether more goodness is to be had in other places, but I'm grateful for what I've got so no complaints.
