The quadrant of Ca. that you are talking about has all kinds of things to see without messing with Sacramento. You could get lost in a thousand parks and mountains, or seaside drives, any of which are quite stunning. However, in the summer you might want to avoid some of the more popular spots. Yosemite is insane that time of year.

Thanks guys, was just wondering whether it was worth a quick visit on the way through to San Francisco... Going to try Joshua Tree Park and definitely some time in Yosemite, Death Valley, Red Rocks etc...anything else anyone wants to recommend feel free...

California is such a fun place. Most of my time there has been LA and San Diego.
I really want to spend time in Northern California.

Just curious, what is wrong with Sacramento? I've never been there

Well, probably nothing terrible. I just think there's probably about 3,456 more interesting places to visit in CA.

It's dry, you can say that for Sacramento. Other than that... not so much. But then, if you liked LA, who knows.
