At Kelly's?

Kidding aside, on the occasions where I have cut mic holes in resonant heads, I have cut them with a set of dividers, which is nothing more than a drawing compass with tho sharp tips instead of a pencil on one leg.

Place the head with outer side up, and support the underside with a wood plank. Rotate the dividers repeatedly, scoring, and eventually cutting through with a very neat circle - no ring required.

If you are going to go that route, why not get an EQ3 and try that. Let me know if you need one sent to you.

Thanx for the info Cliff - I'm used to the can method (thanx Brian)... :D

I was wondering where can I find a 4" version of this:

I have a 6" (support) ring - but I fear it would be too much for me...

Goki, always remember to have a look at Prof. Sound's Drum Tuning Bible.... Here's his take on bass drum tuning:

Not to open this can of worms again but...just swapped out my stock Sonor Power Reso (is it a PS3 or something??) with no hole and put on the EQ1 I have been waiting for to arrive.

Confirms what I was trying to say earlier, there is definitely a significant volume loss from behind the kit. And I suggested it because of the way Goki was explaining his issue.

And I also see in that read that Greg posted it says with a hole there is "more projection out front". What I tried to say earlier also in crappy words. I said focused I think. I ain't going back to read it, too lazy.

Kelly's not nuts.

How you making out Goki?

Again, all else being equal, if you make a hole, you will get more attack of beater sound out front, but less midrange and bass. If you want that hit-in-the-chest feel of the full drum, no hole.

Thank you...I could call that focus. And less midrange and bass is what I was recommending to him.
Artificial way of alleviating the size of the thing.

Goki,

Did you ever end up with a bass drum head/combo sound you liked with the S-Classix? I couldn't get a sound out of them I didn't like! ;)
