On drums...

Hey guys,

I just switched to Remo several months ago. The Evans heads were to plastic sounding for my Birch SQ2 kit.

I am also back to using Remo. Had some good stuff trying just about every Evans head, I'm just so used to and comfortable with Remo.
I do still use evans on my kick though, front and back.

Thanks Kelly. Reading your post makes me want to put the Emad back on my kick. What drumheads do you use for your kit? I like clear or coated Emperors for Toms clear Ambassadors on the bottom and coated Emperor for snare. I'm currently using clear PS3 on my kick.

Yes! Clear Emps and Ambs on bottom.

Emads have greatly improved. Just love the head. Eq1 for reso.

In relation to what I try for, the sound is hyper controlled.

That's a very nice rock 'n' roll sound! I'm probably more like Greg in that I go for more sustain, but a recording studio and recorded sound are usually not where I am or what I get to hear. I usually only hear my drums live, and when the sound leaves you so quickly from behind the kit, unless I have a nice monitor (rarely), I like to hear them sustain for longer. But most studio engineers hate that!

Thanks guys for your comments. I usually do recording sessions for heavy metal style of music. The drier sound sits in very nicely in the mix with the other tracks, especially multiple distorted guitars. The Bonham style open tuning just doesn't work for the music that I play.

Bonham style? What's that? I was thinking more Motown, blues and jazz tuning - although not wearing my shorts up above my navel.
